RE: [taxchat] emailing newsletters

I would just respond that you will remove them from your mailing list.

We  have both email newsletters and papers regular ones;  Both of the newsletters state that if someone wants to be removed from our mailing list to let us know and we will remove their name.

We have had people ask to be removed, and we just keep note in our database to not send them anything.

We like using pdf newsletters complete with circles that people can punch out with a hole punch.  That implies that the material is of significant value and that it should be saved.  We add a note in the body of the message saying that if someone wants to be removed all they need to do is hit "Reply" with "Remove" in the Subject line.  Nobody has ever asked to be removed.  If newsletters are going to clients of record, I wouldn't be concerned.  In fact we tell people that getting our newsletter is a free perk of using our services.

I just started sending my newsletter by email to all the clients whose email addresses I have.  I got a note back from one of them that what I was doing was very unprofessional because I didn’t have a place to unsubscribe.  Does anyone know if I have to follow some kind of protocol with this?

Sincerely,
