Terima kasih atas bantuan para rekan pajak sekalian.

Salam,
Johny Susanto

[taxchat] Rebate

I have heard different answers to this question....could someone please
clarify....I was under impression that had to file by 10/15 to get the
stimulus rebate....I had heard that even if you didn't file by 10/15,
you could get credit for the rebate on the 2008 return.

I don't see anything like that.

What maybe I see is that if file by 10/15 timely, and you don't get a
check issued by 12/31/08...then you can take the rebate amount as a
credit on your 2008 return.

Thanks,
Ira

Re: [taxchat] Rant : People who wait until the last minute.

Better to file on time, then amend it later if they think of more expenses, but at least they won't have a late filing penalty.

Some people will procrastinate as long as you let them.  Yes, I can e-file until midnight on Oct 15, but no thanks.  I don't need the stress.

I had an M.D. client who was still faxing me information at 5:30PM on the 15th.  Last mail pickup in town is 7PM.  Client had a $140K liability, and was risking late filing penalty of $7000 in order to try to squeeze out a few hundred more $ in travel expenses and office supplies.  They picked up their return at the curb of my office building at about 6:55.  I still don't know (and don't particularly care) if they got it postmarked in time.  I doubled my hourly rate on that one.

People are just plain CRAZY!!!!!!

RE: [taxchat] ENGAGEMENT LETTER FOR WRITEUP AND TAX

Arnie,

I’d advise two separate engagement letters, since both the services you’ll provide and your potential liability exposure are essentially different.  I guess that if I did combine mine, I’d divide it two sections, a tax section and a writeup section.  But I’d want the client to sign off on each section, so why not have two letters?

Like I said, I doubled my hourly rate.  For deranged clients like this one, I raise my rate until they either go away, or the size of the fee overcomes the PITA factor.  In this case, the fee was worth the grief; I will be paid at least $2500 for what would normally be a $1500 return.

None of this is meant to imply that the client isn’t an absolute nutbar.

RE: [taxchat] Rant : People who wait until the last minute.

Holy moley.  I had one client that was going to do something similar -- try to get me about $50 of deductions at the very end of the day -- I pointed out that it would cost her more to pay me to re-do the tax return (it was already printed out etc.) than any benefit she would get from the $50 of expenses.  That took care of that.

I don't e-file either, pretty much for the same reasons that Chuck doesn't.  :D

I don’t efile, I have reasons that make sense to me, and I’m tired of that discussion.  Anyway, I’m  not going to make it possible for them to procrastinate for another 5 hours, which is exactly what would happen.

RE: [taxchat] Rant : People who wait until the last minute.

I don’t efile, I have reasons that make sense to me, and I’m tired of that discussion.  Anyway, I’m  not going to make it possible for them to procrastinate for another 5 hours, which is exactly what would happen.

I still don’t know (and don’t particularly care) if they got it postmarked in time.  I doubled my hourly rate on that one.

People are just plain CRAZY!!!!!!

Re: [taxchat] Charging Interest in Oklahoma

Thanx.  Oklahoma's site is apparently the Commission on Consumer Credit.  Had to call the State Treasurer's office.  I thought it was very difficult to find.

Kansas' website is much more user friendly!

Find the State website, then State Banking and search there or find a phone number to the department

I have a client in OK that wants to start charging interest on past due A/R accounts.  In KS, the Office of the State Bank Commissioner has jurisdiction over how much you can charge.  Additionally, we have a form that has to be completed each year, along with a $25 fee, that allows us to charge interest.

1.  Is there a maximum rate that can be charged in OK?

2.  Is there an application to complete in OK in order to be allowed to charge interest?

I've been checking all over the internet, but am not having much luck.  Does anyone know about this?

Thanx!
