RE: [taxchat] Re: Testing ...

We get fires pretty much every year, this time of year (from the hot, dry
Santa Ana winds that come in off the desert after dry summers). The big
problem is that we are in the middle of a very bad drought that's been going
on for several years now (it is currently illegal to waste water, and we may
soon go on rationing), which makes it a lot easier to have big fires.
Furthermore, the media comes and announces it every year: "Fire Season !!
Fire Season !!" After which, the criminal arsonists go out and start fires.
I'm sure that if the media (looking for a ratings-grabbing disaster story)
would kindly refrain from announcing the fact every year, we wouldn't have
half the fires at least. You should see the T.V. Non-stop fire coverage on
5 channels, not even any ads. Very tedious. What's to tell ? There is a
fire, here are the firemen, here are the statistics. Not much you can do
with that for 4 days and nights straight. Finally today they added
commercials back in. You can tell when people get saturated with the
disaster and ratings drop, the news channel goes back to regular programming
(even though the fires are still going just the same).

A few years ago, I volunteered for a week in one of the fire zones. I'm a
L.A. Fire Dept. CERT member (Community Emergency Response Team). I had a
cough after that which lasted 6 months ! I now carry in my car a
particulate mask that I can wear when needed ! Actually, I wore masks that
time a couple of years ago, but had to take it off while driving through the
muck, because it was making my glasses drop down and I couldn't see. That's
where I breathed enough toxic smoke to get that 6-mo. cough. Today I've
been staying inside for the most part !

Cheers,
JoJo

This is good but it is still too close for me! The air has to be
toxic in the fire area. A lot of people may be sick within the next
ten years - there was a large amount of fires this year in CA. Is
this the norm? I do not remember so many fires throughout the year
but I do know thst a few of the fires was arson.
