Re: [taxchat] statue of limitations

Was there a Form 872 signed off to extend the time, or was the return filed late so the statutes started after the filing date? I had a client that was in collections and required to file his more current years. Since he was in collections they still made him pay for the 1997 return even though another branch of the IRS sent him a notice that 1997 was out of statute. The collections officer's reasoning was because 1997 became a special issue because of their involvement.

I do not believe there is any statute of limitations on a Debt.  It just accrues more interest.

What statute of limitations are you concerned about?  There are several for different things.  Such as, 7 years for civil suite, 3 years for IRS to audit, none for fraud. Just found out because of an accident I had in a national store - 3 years for personal injury. So be more specific.
