Re: [taxchat] Mailing tax returns

I efiled my extensions this year, and it was great!  I have an electronic postmark for every one of them.

I even put each extension form in a separate envelope.  I used to put them all in the same envelope, with a list attached, return receipt requested.  One year, the IRS claimed that four (out of about 30) extensions weren't received, even though they were included on the list.  I was able to back them off, but only after an extended letter war.  Now every document gets its own envelope.

Robert,

I think I like your idea of putting each return in it's own envelope and then mailing them all together RRR.  Thanks for the thoughts.....

I file old, multiple years, quite frequently.  I usually discusss the issues with either the agent involved, or ACS, and ask specifically, where do you want the returns mailed?

Then I have each return signed and stuffed into a separate envelope, labelled with the tax year, and stuff ALL the envelopes into one big one, addressed to where they want it.  Never had a problem.
