I have a client who received a 30 day letter back in June and chose to ignore it. They have now received a 90 day letter which is the NOTICE OF DEFICIENCY. My understanding is that it is now too late to amend their tax return and they will have to file a petition to the tax court. Is this correct?I know this has probably been discussed on here before but what is the process after the petition is filed? The letter states there is a simplified procedure for small tax cases. What is the simplified procedure?
