Re: [taxchat] Acronis

There is a wesite at radified.com which has forums where you can get reviews and feedback on most of the backup software in the market. It is free and very useful and informative.

By the way, from Ghost images, one can retrieve individual files, which is very handy when accidentally a file is deleted.

Imaging drives is a good idea. I'm still using an older version of Ghost but for my new computer, I'll probably get Acronis. You can image any drive that the software can see. I had one occasion where a drive failed and restoring from an image was a life saver. I believe that it is the most reliable recovery method for total disk failure. Just make sure that when you image a drive that you run a verification pass to confirm the integrity of the image. With Ghost that means checking a box but its probably equally easy with Acronis.

Mel or Chuck, or JoJo, I think you might be familiar with this one – or any others who might know, I'd appreciate suggestions.

I'm looking into Acronis imaging software, or other possibilities in the event of a server meltdown, so that I would be able to be up and running ASAP.  I have a backup system but would like the extra security of an image of my server so that I wouldn't have to reinstall the OS or applications.  The server has 3 physical hard drives, a C drive and a mirrored D drive.  I'm running XP Pro.

  1. Will the Acronis software be capable of imaging the entire computer, including all 3 hard drives?  Which version would be the correct one?  I read of one called True Image 2009.
  2. What would be the medium required – would and external hard drive hooked up to a USB port work?
  3. In your opinion is Acronis the best way to go about this, or is there a better imaging solution?

Thanks for suggestions.
